A baby born on the Pine Ridge Reservation can expect to live just 66.8 years, while a child in Breckenridge, Colorado will live 86.8 years on average. The disparity isn’t limited to Pine Ridge – Indigenous communities from Canada to New Zealand experience the same systematic theft of years from their lives. In Australia, the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and non-aboriginal men is 8.6 years on average.
